This sprawling region features some of Sydney’s most popular active transport corridors, stretching from the scenic waterfront loop at Iron Cove, across the southern suburbs to Salt Pan Creek, and extending up to the historic grounds of Rookwood Cemetery.
Whether you are exploring on an e-bike, commuting, or planning a weekend family ride, this area offers an excellent mix of dedicated cycleways and flat, off-road shared paths. At its heart is the Cooks River Cycleway, which seamlessly links with major local infrastructure—including the GreenWay, our 2025 Sydney Cycling Infrastructure Award winner—to provide miles of safe, continuous riding.

Cooks Ride 25: The Sydney Greenway Trail

Whites Creek Lane and the Iron Cove Loop
This ride provides a connected and predominantly flat ride through Sydney’s Inner West, linking Stanmore, historic infrastructure, local street art, and a really popular waterfront circuit. Lets cycle 🚲
Marrickville Metro and off to Sydney Park
A quirky urban connect-the-dots along the T3 Metro alignment followed by backstreet contraflows, giant red concrete couches, colourful exhaust stacks, and a family focussed dog filled park. Starts at The Greenway
Cooks Ride 27 - Campsie to Summer Hill
This 5.5km ride provides a surprisingly clever, quiet, and rapid backstreet link connecting the Cooks River near Campsie all the way to Ashfield South, Summer Hill Station and the GreenWay. Bypassing crowded main roads, it dissects tree-lined avenues, council quiet-ways, and a hidden lane mostly blocked to through traffic. Lets cycle 🚲
Breakfast Point – Sydney
A short really scenic ride that you can take your kids on for a leisurely trundle. The pedestrians in the area are not as thick as nearby Iron Cove. Mostly the trail is for going slow on and there is a point at Bayview Point where you must walk your bike for a 100 metres through a private estate.

When I first started thinking about Sydney trails, my head was filled with thoughts of steep hills, cars and faded white pictures of bikes on green patches on the road. After a much exploring, I can now reveal that Sydney has some very good places to ride if you have the motivation to going exploring. These rides should get you pumping those tyres up.
