And the winner for 2025 is ...
The 2025 Sydney Infrastructure Awards: A Golden Year for Cycling
Greetings all!
Since I started tracking Sydney’s cycling infrastructure back in 2018, I’ve seen some lean years and some great ones. Usually, we get about eight worthy entries for the annual Infrastructure Awards.
But 2025? This year was different.
We had 13 entries this year. That is a massive jump, and it shows just how much momentum is building across our city. From the CBD to the deep south and the west, the “missing links” in our network are finally being welded together.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
Before we get to this year’s heavy hitters, it’s worth looking at how far we’ve come. We’ve crowned some iconic winners over the years (more in the video):
2018: The Woolooware Coastal Path (opening up Cronulla).
2020: The high-flying Bare Creek MTB Park.
2021: The $100m Parramatta Escarpment.
2024: A rare tie between Castlereagh Street and the Sydney Airport link.
The Class of 2025: The Three Finalists
Out of the 13 entries, three stood head and shoulders above the rest. I’ve put them together in the image below—each one of these would have easily won in any previous year.
Oxford Street West & The CBD Links: A masterclass in connectivity. It finally joined Liverpool Street East to College Street and King Street, creating a seamless flow through the heart of the city.
Muddy Creek (The M6 Shared Path): Despite some construction drama with the tunnels below, the finish on this path is world-class. Running from Barton Park to Monterey, it features the “Red Bridges”—some of the most beautiful waterway constructions we’ve ever built for cycling in Sydney.
The Greenway: The long-awaited 4km link from Iron Cove to the Cooks River. It’s the “holy grail” for Inner West riders, allowing you to bypass busy roads and cross from one side of the city to the other in peace.
See the Winners in Action
I took the bike out to ride these paths to show you exactly why they made the cut. You can see the “red bridges” and the lush corridors of the Inner West in the full video below:
And the Winner Is...
While I usually enjoy a good online poll to see what the community thinks, this year the choice was so clear that a poll wasn’t even necessary.

🏆 THE GREENWAY
This isn’t just a path; it’s a transformation. To be able to ride from the harbour to the river while barely crossing a road is exactly what a modern, liveable Sydney should look like. It is, quite simply, world-class.
To everyone who designed, lobbied for, and built these paths: thank you. You’ve made this cycling advocate a very happy man.
Merry Christmas, Sydney. Get out there and enjoy these paths over the break!
