The new CycleSydney Map launchpad
Finding Your Way
We’ve been working on a simpler way to get our cycling maps onto your phone while you’re out exploring. We’ve just set up a new “Launchpad” to make the process of getting cycletrails in the background of Google Maps easier. Think green lines with lots more info.
You can now find the entry point for all our routes at: maps.cyclesydney.com
How to use the Launchpad
To get the best experience on an iPhone or Android device, we recommend a quick two-step process:
Open Google Maps first: Before clicking the link, make sure your Google Maps app is already open.
Hit the Launchpad: Go to maps.cyclesydney.com. Press either the Orange Button or the Apple button for iPhone, it should automatically trigger the Google Maps app and overlay our custom cycle routes onto your screen.
Keeping the map handy
The best part is that you don't have to visit the URL every single time you want to ride. Once you have opened the map via the Launchpad while signed into your Google account, Google Maps automatically remembers it for you. It stays linked to your profile until you choose to close it.
To find it again later:
Open the Google Maps app.
Go to the Saved or “You” section (usually at the bottom or via your profile icon).
Scroll to the bottom and select Maps (or Explore Maps).
Select the CycleSydney map from your list.
Note: If the map ever seems to “disappear” or closes when you touch the screen, just close the Google Maps app entirely and reopen it. The map layer usually stays active in the background.
Pro-Tips for the Trail
Once the map is open, you can use Google’s built-in features to make navigation even easier:
The “Blue Dot”: Keep an eye on your location (the blue dot) relative to our suggested paths. It’s the easiest way to ensure you haven’t missed a turn-off.
Digging In: The fact that you have Google Maps means you can use street view to review locations. Think of this map as your reference to all the bike trails. We provide suggested Rides in our website but most good rides are preceded by research.
Safety First: Please remember that in NSW, a bicycle is treated like a vehicle. Using your phone while riding is illegal and dangerous. Always pull off the path and come to a complete stop before checking the map or changing your route.
We hope this makes your next Sydney adventure a little easier to navigate. See you out there!
